Back to School Night
Back to School Night is coming!  It's a very exciting time of the year when parents get to walk in the shoes of their students.  You'll leave the evening with faces to go with names and a lot of information.  Below are details about where to park, what you'll need to know to get around, and a few other details that will lead to a successful evening for all.  We look forward to see you here on September 15, 2011 at 6:30!

School Support through Pizza?
Don't worry about dinner.  Before heading over to the event, support our school by ordering dinner from Vocelli's Pizza.  20% of all sales will be donated to Patapsco Middle School PTA who will then pass on those dollars to our school.  So leave the kids at home with a pizza and come on over!

Getting Here
Access to parking on school property will be limited to school staff and handicap drivers.  All other visitors are to park at one of our two sattelite parking lots and ride a shuttle.  Shuttles (also known as yellow school buses) will begin running at 5:45 pm and will continue throughout the evening until about 8:45 pm.

 Satellite locations are as follows:

Hollifield Station Elementary
8701 Stonehouse Drive
Ellicott City, Maryland 21043
Crossroads Church - The Nazarene
2750 Rogers Avenue
Ellicott City, Maryland 21043

Once again, handicapped parking and parking for staff will be available in our school lot.  Parking on campus will not be available for general parking.

We ask that you support our efforts to reduce the impact of our event on our school neighborhood by following these parking procedures.  Please do not park on the road or in our neighbors' driveways.

When you Arrive...
Parents are to report directly to the student's Homeroom which will begin promptly at 6:30.  Student schedules and building maps will be provided to each parent/guardian in this class.  Parents who arrive after the 'school day' begins, should still report to base class where you will find a desk outside of the classroom containing student schedules that have not been claimed.

Schedule For the Evening
Once situated in Base Class, a very brief general announcement will be made via the school news show.  Following the announcements, you will visit each of your child's classes.  It might be a good idea to look at the school map to learn your route.  We're giving you an extra minute to get from room to room (your kids only get two), but you won't make it to class on time if you have no idea where you're going.  You will have to be sure to move with a purpose and limit hallway conversations - just like your kids do!  The bell schedule will run as follows:

What You Can Expect
Attending Back to School night allows you to visit the classrooms your son or daughter sits in on a daily basis and to listen to a presentation from the professionals who teach them.  Each staff member will have about five minutes (once they get you settled down) to share the information they feel is the most important for you to know.  That doesn't leave any time for individual conversations so we respectfully ask for your understanding that this is not the time for one-on-one consultations.  If you have an immediate concern, please contact the teacher directly via email or by calling the school.

We will not be serving you a meal, but do invite you to visit the cafeteria during your students lunch shift to take advantage of the opportunity to register your retail bonus cards, sign up for HCPSSNews, ASPEN Parent Portal, the PTA and more!  Community organizations will be on hand to share with you information about their programs as well.  This is also a good time for you to catch up with that neighbor you saw in period 3 but couldn't chat with during 'class'.

We know you are wondering if you should bring your student with you.  Space is at a premium and we get to spend every day with them.  So, if you are able to, we ask that you come to Back to School night without your child.  There will be plenty of student volunteers on hand to help you find your way from one class to the next, so don't worry about needing a personal tour guide.  We've got you covered AND you're going to do your homework and study the school map, right?
