  • Student Member of the Board elections will be held tomorrow in homeroom. Through your social studies classes, you will see a brief video of each candidate and go over the democratic process to help prepare for this important election.

  • Students attending the Film Festival trip on Friday should plan to bring materials for 1st period and 7th period. We will leave from 1st period around 9:00. Permission forms for the trip were due today.

The lithium-ion battery in the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones can overheat and catch fire, posing serious fire and burn hazard to consumers.

  • Enrichment seminars meeting today include period 1 6th grade Affirmative Debate, 2nd period 6th Grade Negative Debate and 7th period the Debate Travel Team. All will meet in room D9.

Morning Announcements: April 20

  • We would like to congratulate all of Patapsco's Choirs on their fine performances at the Howard County Choral Adjudication and Assessment, which took place before Spring Break. The 6th Grade Chorus gave a great performance and received rave reviews from the judges at the non-rated Adjudication.The Chamber Singers and Treble Chorus both received overall Superior ratings at the Assessment.  That's the highest rating possible!  Awesome! Great job, singers!  Keep up the good work and best of luck at the Hersheypark competition!

D-11.

  • Door Decorating Contest: Today, in our Black History Month features, we would like to focus on  Zora Neale Hurston. Get out your notes in case this fantastic woman is your inspiration for our door decorating contest. Zora Neale Hurston was a novelist and short story writer as well as an anthropologist. She is well-known for her novel, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" which tells the story of Janie Crawford, an African-American woman in her early forties. She tells the story of her life via an extended flashback to her best friend, Pheoby Watson. Readers receive the story of her life in three major periods corresponding to her marriages to three very different men. The novel was criticized at the start, but later on received high recognition in TIME magazine as one of the top 100 best English language novels since 1923. Hurston states, "There are years that ask questions and years that answer."

  • Howard County’s literary magazine, Our Voice is having their last call for submissions. Any creative literary work is eligible to be published. Submissions are due today to Ms. Glass!

  • Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history. This month, Patapsco is going to be celebrating in a variety of ways.  Over the announcements we will feature different achievements that have been made by African Americans. From the people that we feature, or a name you discover from your own interest, your homeroom will have the opportunity to take part in a door decorating contest!

The Battle of the Box Top results have been calculated. Here are the totals:

  • With 5.74 box tops per student..... BAND!!
  • With 6.68 box tops per student.... ORCHESTRA!
  • and the winner is CHORUUUUUUUS with 7.92 box tops per student.
