From the Principal’s Desk…

Quick Notes:

  • Second quarter ends today. That means gradebooks are being closed and grades submitted next Monday. You can expect to see report cards in backpacks on February 5.
  • If your student is performing below grade level in math/reading, we will begin making recommendations for summer school during the month of February. Summer School will be held during the month of July. So, please keep that in mind as you plan your summer trips.
  • Speaking of summer trips, we have had a couple of snow closures. Please be reminded the last possible day of school for the year is June 15. So, again, plan summer adventures accordingly.
  • The PTA sponsored Fun Knight on Friday was a hit! Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out from set up to clean up and everything in between. We couldn’t have done it without you! [Also, Death of Knowledge! If you don’t know, ask your kids. Fantastic!]
  • Dinner Conversation: Today we shared our school-wide theme for Black History Month with the student body. Our focus this year will be on the Harlem Renaissance. Talk about it; explore it together. There is a wealth of information on the internet about this topic. We have also provided students with a brief list of resources on Canvas in the Lunch course.
  • Congrats to Ryan S on his amazing Geography Bee win! I’m sure I had no idea which Nordic country borders Russia and is the the most densely forested country in Europe.

I’ll end on that note as I anticipate I’m going to lose readers as you as Siri or Google to find out the correct answer to that difficult Geography Bee query.

Hoping you have a wonderful weekend,

Cindy Dillon

Snow Ball Fun Knight recap

What a great night we had Jan. 19!  Over 260 students attended the Snow Ball to play basketball, bingo, dance to the DJ's tunes, and hear our very own teacher band, Death of Knowledge, rock it out on stage.  Special thanks to: Ray Wall, our outstanding volunteer DJ; Heather Lupold for running BINGO; Becky Liddle and Femi Oladinni for running basketball; Mike Keller and Mary Beth Munns for setting up concessions, Janis Maslow, Jessica Smith and Hong Bell for selling concessions; Amanda Buckler, Kim Michelotti, Caroline Bodziak and Laura Munns for selling tickets; Vanessa Lang, Ken Coleman, Jamie Moyer and Michaela Muffoletto for registering party-goers, Dana Arthurs for making sure kids were picked up safely; and Erin Donnell, Heather Carpenter, Jennifer Laanisto, Raquel Cosden, Phil Mansour, Aimee Weeks, Linda Senula, Sree Puttagunta, Paige Holly, and former students Carmen Bodziak and Grace Kelly for chaperoning.  A tremendous shout-out to band members Mr. Price, Mr. Azat, Mr. Dymek and Mr. Na for playing a live, half-hour set during the Fun Knight.  Students and parents loved the classic and current rock tunes!  Get ready for info to come soon about the March 23 Spring Fling Fun Knight.
