Diversity and Inclusion Survey

Thu, 02/08/2018 - 9:10am
A PTA Council of Howard County (PTACHC) survey in November 2017 showed a desire to make county PTAs’ leadership and membership more reflective of the school communities they serve.  PTACHC asked Dr. Kevin Gilbert, Director of the HCPSS Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Community Outreach for help.  The hope is that his office can help support an initiative to form diversity/inclusion/outreach committees at every school.  This would encompass parent focused education, training and ongoing support with the goal of laying a strong foundation for the next school year.  Several PTAs already have committees in place and are doing great things.  We want to tap into your experiences and share best practices (and not so best practices)!

The first step is hearing from you. Dr. Gilbert has crafted a survey to help gather preliminary information.  Please know that we realize that each school is unique in its diversity and that diversity and inclusion mean different things to each of you.   This is just the beginning of a very important conversation.  There is always room for each of us to improve and evolve.

All answers will stay anonymous.   Dr. Gilbert will discuss the results and initiative at the March 5 PTACHC meeting.  Thank you in advance for completing and sharing.  If you have additional questions of concerns, please contact Vicky Cutroneo, President of PTACHC at president@ptachc.org.
