WEATHER TO THE EXTREME

Sixth grade science students who were selected to be weather ambassadors attended the "Weather to the Extreme" conference at the Howard County Conservancy on December 4th. They learned how to better understand extreme weather, its economic impacts, and how best to handle an extreme weather event. The featured presenters included: BGE, Davey Trees, HCPSS, Howard County Government, National Weather Service, NOAA, REI, and meteorologist Ava Marie from WBAL TV. The ambassadors will be working together to create a presentation for the rest of the sixth graders to teach them what they learned at the conference. Ask your sixth grader to tell you what they learn from these ambassadors when they see the presentation in January, and have them help to create your own emergency kit to keep at home!

Club Day- December 18

Our students have been selecting their top choices for clubs to participate in once a month at the end of the day in lieu of a Knight Time homeroom. We look forward to having all students engaged in an activity that helps build community, create friendships, and allows all students to be involved in a program of their choice. We look forward to our students having their first club day on December 18.

MEMORY BOOKS

Yearbooks are available for purchase now through jostensyearbooks.com. They are on sale now through April. If you like to pay by cash or check, please contact Ms. Salsman kalina_salsman@hcpss.org at Patapsco Middle School or click here for an order form.

New Intramural

WEngineer is an engineering education intramural at Patapsco Middle School through which students will engage in activities and be challenged to step outside of their comfort zone. The intramural will teach a wide variety of engineering skills, including biomedical engineering, 3D modeling, isometric sketching, and electrical engineering. This advanced intramural will also give students a head start to acquire knowledge about engineering that can be applied at high school and college levels.

There are only a few remaining spots in this program and it covers new curriculum compared to the session that was run in the spring. It runs every Tuesday after school. If you are interested in this exciting opportunity please talk to Ms. Schluter in Room B5 or email we.ngineer@yahoo.com!

From the Health Room:

We have had multiple parents call the Health Room to check on their sick child or come to the Health Room at school to pick up their sick child, when their child has not been in the Health Room at all.  Please instruct your students if they are contacting you due to an illness to please report to the Health Room for evaluation.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before they can return to school.

If your child is absent due to a contagious illness such as the flu, strep throat, pink eye, upper respiratory infection, or GI illness please notify the health room at 410-313-2574 or Megan_Blouse@hcpss.org

MUSIC BOOSTERS

The Music Boosters is excited to announce the Sponsor A Chair Fundraiser to purchase Wenger student chairs for the music classrooms. We need to raise $15,000 to outfit the entire department. Thanks to earlier generous donations, the Music Boosters is able to kick-off the fundraiser with $2,000. To help raise the remaining $13,000, families can sponsor a chair. You can sponsor a full chair for $50 and half a chair for $25.All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be provided. If you choose to contribute, your name will be added to a plaque that will be hung in the D hallway at the end of the fundraiser. Additional information including the sponsor form is available on the Music Boosters website - http://patapscomusicboosters.weebly.com/ This fundraiser is in addition to the regular fundraising efforts, the Giving Club and donations at the concerts, which address the on-going needs of the music program. Thank you for your support of the Music Boosters and of Patapsco's music program!

Winter Concert Volunteers:  Be on the lookout for a Sign-Up Genius for volunteer positions for the Band, Chorus, and Orchestra Winter Concerts.  The directors could really use your assistance to make these events smooth and successful for our young musicians.  You can volunteer for your own child's performance night or that of another group.  The Sign-Up Genius will be sent to those who registered as Volunteers through the Music Boosters next week and any remaining slots will be forwarded to all music department families the following week.

Concert Closet: The Boosters are currently collecting gently worn concert attire: long-sleeved, button-down, white oxford shirts, black dress pants, black skirts, black belts, and black dress shoes. We are especially in need of girls’ black skirts, black dress pants, and black dress shoes. Last year we helped students by giving out over 40 pieces of FREE concert attire that they can keep until they outgrow. Please send your donation to school in a bag labeled "Concert Closet." Thanks for your donations!
