Impact Concussion Testing is MANDATORY for all HCPSS Student Athletes, Grades 9-12. The Impact Testing Schedule below is for ALL Incoming 9th Grade Students interested in trying out for a Fall Sport.
(This is a change from the dates handed out during the winter orientation)
ImPACT Concussion Baseline Test is a test of cognitive function including memory and reaction time. The purpose of the testing is to determine normal brain function levels that later can be used to help determine when it is appropriate for the athlete to safely return to play in the event of a head injury.
The Howard County Public School System procedures require all student athletes who wish to try out for a contact/collision sport to take ImPACT prior to trying out. Even if a student is considering trying out for a fall sport, he/she should take advantage of testing in May. If a student does not take the ImPACT test prior to trying out it could jeopardize his/her chances of making the team. Fall Contact/Collision Sport is considered one of the following: Cheerleading, Football, Field Hockey, Soccer, and Volleyball (Golf & Cross Country Athletes do not need to be Impact tested).
The Impact Concussion Test will be offered to all Incoming 9th Grade Students (Class of 2020), who are interested in trying out for a FALL Sport ONLY, on the following days and times on a first come, first serve basis:
Monday, June 6th, 3:00PM – 6:00PM, in the MTH Media Center
Tuesday, June 7th, 3:00PM – 6:00PM, in the MTH Media Center
Wednesday, June 8th, 3:00PM – 6:00PM, in the MTH Media Center
