Dear Patapsco families:

I hope this email finds you and your family safe and well. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the families and especially our fantastic PTA who made our teachers and staff feel loved and appreciated last week during Teacher (and Staff) Appreciation Week! We are lucky to have the best parents and families who show constant support for Patapsco and their child’s education.

As we continue our Continuity of Learning, we are excited about a few updates at Patapsco. First, our morning news is back! Our students are producing and creating the material for a weekly morning news broadcast for our Patapsco students. I am proud of their creativity, passion, and collaboration! All morning news videos are posted on Canvas under “Patapsco Middle School Student Resources.” Thank you, Ms. Glass for inspiring and supporting our Knight News Network crew. In addition, our Student Recognition Committee is bringing back Class Shout-Outs and Positive Referrals to recognize our students. Look for Class Shout-Outs on the morning announcements and a phone call from the administration about Positive Referrals in the near future.

Finally, we have posted some Canvas Help tutorials for parents and guardians on our website. If you or your student need Canvas or Technology assistance, please contact our media specialist, Mrs. McNabb at suzanne_mcnabb@hcpss.org

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

From the Media Center

Please Help Maintain Our Library Media Center For 2020-2021

We are delighted that many of our students currently have Patapsco Middle School library books checked out.

Over the next couple of weeks, you will be receiving emails from our library paraeducator, Mrs. Murach. The emails will provide a list of books your student has checked out. Please work with your child to locate and secure the books so they can eventually be returned.

Returns will most likely occur in August to the school your child will attend. 8th graders will return books to the high school, and 6th and 7th graders will bring them back to Patapsco. Thank you for your support keeping our book collection in good shape for the future.

Electronic Books Available

In the meantime, students can access ebooks and audiobooks through Mackinvia on their hcpss.me homepage. They can even download the Mackinvia app and check out ebooks to read without Internet access.

New! Go to MackinVia/Databases/Capstone for a large selection of non-fictions eBooks in English and Spanish. Check out the 10 Minute Project series for fun make-it-at-home activities.

Reminder: If you haven’t tried checking out ebooks and audiobooks from the Howard County Public Library, you are missing out on an amazing resource. HCPL has significant eContent available online, including e-books and e-audiobooks; streaming TV, movies, and music; online classes; and digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines. Students can log into their HCPL account by visiting the hcpss.me page and selecting the HCPL button. HCPL will waive fines for materials that will become due during the time we are closed. Additionally, the period of time in which you can pick up requested items will be extended so you don’t lose your items on hold.
